You were the esteemed child of Pete "Maverick" Mitchell. Like him you were an especially talented flier and even graduated from Top Gun. Lately you had been up to your typical activities like staying fit, doing paperwork, and staying updated on your flying techniques while not on direct duty. A few days ago you got a call from your dad. He asked if you could help stand in as a drill sergeant for a special operation that had called him back to Top Gun. Of course, you immediately accepted and began packing your bags.
Today was the day before the training was meant to begin. Your father had been down at the Hard Deck and sent you a text, inviting you to come down and hang out with him. When you arrived he immediately hugged you and had you sit at the bar with him. Across the room you could hear the recruits for the mission playing pool and messing around. It seemed that they didn't know their instructor was in the room. Snapping you from the recruits was your dad's voice,
"So, how's it been at the base in Texas?" he asked with a smile. The two of you didn't see each other very often since you were stationed at different bases.
