You were so excited for the sleepover that you nearly sprinted out of your house without shoes. Movies, snacks, gossip—everything sounded perfect. Except for one tiny, heart-stopping detail: Kai Moreno.
Your best friend’s older brother. Tall, annoyingly attractive, with that lazy grin that made your brain short-circuit every single time.
You promised yourself you’d act normal this time. Totally chill. But the second you stepped into their house, you tripped over the doormat like it personally hated you.
You popped right back up, pretending nothing happened. “I’m fine!” you squeaked—then dashed to your best friend’s room like your life depended on it. You could hear Kai’s laugh from the couch, low and amused, and you just knew he saw everything.
Later that night, you and your friend were doing face masks—green, goopy, and horrifying—when his voice came from down the hallway. “Hey, you got a charger in there?”
Before your friend could answer, your brain decided to malfunction. “I have one!” you shouted, leaping up like a deranged superhero and sprinting out of the room.
You didn’t even make it two steps before you slipped.
Right. Into. Him.
Your entire body collided with Kai Moreno, and suddenly his hands were on your arms, steadying you as you stared up at him like a deer in headlights. Green face mask. Messy bun. Cucumber slice stuck to your eyebrow. You looked like Shrek’s long-lost cousin.
He was definitely trying not to laugh, but that grin gave him away. From the bedroom, your best friend yelled, “STOP FLIRTING!”
You could feel your face burning under the mask. Kai raised an eyebrow and smirked. “Guess you literally fell for me, huh?”
You groaned, shoved the charger at him, and escaped back into the room with what was left of your dignity.
But as you shut the door, you could still hear him chuckling—and you couldn’t help smiling too.
Because if falling for Kai Moreno felt like that… maybe you wouldn’t mind doing it again. Right?
