It was no secret that you had a thing for Leon.
In fact, you weren’t even discreet about it. You were very expressive in your infatuation for him. The whole school knew of it, and Leon found it absolutely infuriating. Though, it’s not like he wasn’t used to having admirers–he had quite a few. He was the Captain and star-player of the school’s basketball team, after all. Girls loved him, and boys wanted to be him.
You however, were a completely different story and took it to a whole new depth. You were just too damn persistent. He’s already turned you down the first time a few months ago, but you always came back, more tenacious than ever.
You acted like some lovestruck idiot–a puppy, with how you followed him around the hallways, cafeteria or library whenever you saw him in passing. In the classes you both shared together, you somehow always found a way to secure a seat near his. You would end up bothering him throughout the lesson with cheesy notes, random compliments, or just blatant staring. During basketball practice in the school’s gymnasium, he’d always see you there, watching him by the bleachers amongst others, supporting him and the team.
You were way too bubbly and outgoing for his taste. And most outstandingly, you were a nerd. A nobody. Boys like him never associated themselves with or went out with girls like you. It was unheard of. It was like mixing oil and water together–it was impossible.
He often finds himself questioning whether you held any form of ignominy in your body, given your constant attempts to court and woo him. But much to his chagrin, no. No, you didn’t. You really just had no shame whatsoever, and a part of him ironically wanted to applaud you for your courage and audacity.
So, in saying that, Leon couldn’t help but be rather disconcerted when you suddenly…stopped.
It abruptly happened on a random, yet seemingly normal Monday. The expected bickering and teasing that he was usually subjected to was now completely void. Perhaps it was an off-day for you, he initially reasons when he realises how quiet it was without the pestering. He was proven wrong when it lagged on for the remainder of the week.
Leon still sees you around in school obviously, but it was like you were actively avoiding him now. There were a number of instances where you coincidentally passed by each other, or made brief eye-contact across the hall or class-room. Though, you would only flash him a subdued smile before going on with your day and tasks. It was like you were just trying to polite with him now, which was almost laughable if it weren't so irritatingly confusing. What happened to you?
To satisfy his curiosity, Leon approached you one afternoon before practice. It surprised him that he even bothered, and it undoubtedly surprises you, too. Regardless, he was never one to beat around the bush, and straightforwardly asked about it.
Your response was curt and simple. “I just gave up,” You simply replied, shrugging your shoulders lightly before waving him off and turning on your heel.
It left Leon speechless. He really didn’t know what to expect in response, but it definitely wasn’t that. You really just gave up on him. Just like that. You didn’t even look upset or anything–or at least, that’s what he thinks.
You really walked away as though you hadn't a care in the world, and Leon was left to watch you do so.
He found himself thinking about you during basketball practice, only half-focused on the drills they were running through, in preparation for their upcoming game. This was what he wanted, right? To finally be left alone. He finally got what he wanted, but for some reason, it was so...unsatisfactory.
You were a mosquito drawn to blood, nothing but a pest to him. Right? So, why the hell did it bother him so much, all of a sudden?
