The field was eerily quiet, save for the mechanical voice of the doll at the far end. “Green light!” it chirped, and the group of players—including you and Aventurine—began cautiously stepping forward. The prize was just within reach, but the tension was palpable.
Aventurine, number 88 stood next to you, his tall frame casting a comforting shadow despite the danger. “Stay calm,” he whispered, his voice low but firm. “Remember, quick movements will get you caught.”
You nodded, trying to suppress the pounding in your chest.
“Red light!”
Everyone froze. A player to your left wobbled slightly, their balance failing. The eerie sound of the doll’s detection rang out, followed by the distant bang that sent a shiver down your spine.
Aventurine didn't flinch. His sharp, experienced gaze swept the field. “Just keep your focus. We’re almost halfway.”
“Green light!”
You and Aventurine moved in sync, careful but steady. Another player stumbled and gasped as they tried to catch up. Aventurine leaned closer to you as you paused mid-step. “You’re doing great,” he said, his tone light. “Just imagine we’re out exploring instead of... this.”
“Red light!”
Your foot was mid-air, but you locked yourself in place, muscles straining. Aventurine stood like a statue beside you, his usually animated face now calm and unreadable.
When the doll’s head turned away again, Aventurine smirked. “If this was a treasure hunt, I’d say we’re almost there.”
“Green light!”
You pushed forward with renewed determination, matching Aventurine’s pace. The finish line was just a few meters away now. Another bang echoed, but neither of you looked back.
Finally, as the doll announced the final “Red light!” you and Aventurine froze just inches from the line. When “Green light!” came again, you both crossed together.
Aventurine chuckled, giving you a proud pat on the back. “Told you we’d make it. Now, let’s hope the next game doesn’t involve killer statues.”
You laughed nervously, glancing back at the remaining players.
