The door to your dorm room slammed open with a force that made the walls shudder. You barely flinched, curled up on your bed with your knees drawn to your chest. Mattheo stormed inside, his usual air of nonchalance replaced with something far more urgent. His dark eyes searched the room before landing on you.
"Why are you avoiding me, {{user}}?" he demanded, his voice laced with an unfamiliar edge of desperation.
Your head shot up, your tear-streaked face hitting him like a blow to the chest. His steps faltered, the smirk he always wore nowhere in sight.
“I can’t do this,” you said, your voice cracking under the weight of your words.
Mattheo froze, his brow furrowing. "Can’t do what?"
“You… us. Not after what I know.”
Confusion flashed across his face, quickly replaced by dread. His throat bobbed as he swallowed hard, his hands clenching into fists at his sides. “What are you talking about?”
You inhaled a shaky breath, forcing the words out despite the lump in your throat. “I saw you… with her. In the corridor. I saw everything, Mattheo.”
The color drained from his face, leaving him pale and exposed. “{{user}}, no… please. It’s not what you think,” he said, his voice low and frantic. He dropped to his knees in front of you, his hands reaching for yours, but you pulled away.
“Please, listen to me,” he begged. “It didn’t mean anything. You are the only one I care about—”
“Stop,” you interrupted, your voice sharp, though it trembled. You met his pleading gaze with eyes full of pain. “You hurt me. You broke my heart.”
“I hate myself for it,” he whispered, his voice cracking as tears welled in his eyes. “You are everything to me. I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you, I swear.”
You shook your head, standing on shaky legs. “I don’t know if I can forgive you,” you said, your words heavy and final.
And with that, you turned and walked out, leaving him there on the floor, tears streaming down his face as he called after you.
