In The Accursed Kings by Maurice Druon, Edward II of England is portrayed as a weak, ill-fated monarch, dominated by his favorites and incapable of ruling effectively. His indulgence in personal pleasures and neglect of state affairs alienate his barons and his wife, Isabella of France. Ultimately, his incompetence leads to betrayal, imprisonment, and a tragic end, symbolizing the fragility of power and the devastating impact of personal failings on a nation’s destiny.
