Dr. Kuseno — Genos’ creator and mentor — was apparently killed during an attack by rogue machines. Before dying, he gave Genos a major final upgrade, which is what we now see fueling Genos’ dramatic increase in power.

Bofoi revealed that Kuseno may actually have been manipulating Genos the whole time.

This breaks Genos.

The air smells of scorched metal and ozone. Sparks from destroyed robots flicker like dying fireflies around them. Genos is on his knees, arms trembling, eyes wide, a cascade of digital glitches running across his body. He screams—long, raw, shattering screams that carry the weight of every memory, every betrayal, every ounce of grief and rage he’s been holding inside.

He doesn’t know what’s real anymore.
