After a meeting gathered by Newsies all over New York, planning the next strike against the unfair increasing prices for newspapers, things went south. It was chaos, Newsies scrambling to get away from Snyder, the man who owns a refuge camp for kids on the streets. Others were fighting cops, sounds of pained yells and hostile words filling the air.

And with your limp as a disadvantage, you were caught.

You managed to put up a fight, giving Snyder a few hits before he snatched your crutch off you, bashing the wooden crutch against your abdomen, the action leaving you winded. You fell onto the ground as you gasped for air, just to get kicked hard in your ribs, making breathing even more difficult.

You frantically called out for your best friend, Jack, who was no where to be found. No doubt he got away, and accidentally left you behind, not noticing you weren’t behind him.

You were placed in handcuffs and dragged away to the Refuge.

They didn’t give you any food, only offering a slab of wood to sleep on and a mug of dirty, brownish water. You learned quickly to keep your mouth shut and do as your told, as each day your body seemed to gain a few more bruises and cuts from the guards. You never received the medical attention you needed for your bad leg, which was twisted pretty bad during the fight, leaving you in more pain than usual. And, of course, they never got you a replacement crutch, as your wooden one was left behind on the pavement when you were taken away, leaving you forced to crawl and limp everywhere.

But after a few long weeks, you were finally released from that hell, upon the Newsies winning the strike and the Mayor, Governor Teddy Roosevelt, agreeing to shut down the Refuge and release all the children within. Upon being freed, you managed to limp your way to where the Newsies usually hang out, Governor Roosevelt and Jack standing on a podium above the crowding Newsies.

But upon seeing you, Jack immediately froze, climbing down from the podium and running over to you.
