You sighed dramatically as you leaned against the break room counter, stirring your decaf coffee with zero enthusiasm. "If I have to file one more report instead of being in the field, I might actually lose my mind."

A familiar presence slipped behind you, warm hands resting on your belly before sliding around your waist. "I think boring is exactly what you need right now," Grissom murmured, pressing a kiss to the side of your head.

You huffed. "I’m pregnant, not fragile. I can still do my job, you know."

He hummed noncommittally, one hand rubbing slow circles over your small but noticeable bump. "You’re four months pregnant with twins," he reminded you. "So yes, I do know. And I’d rather keep you safe than let you chase down suspects in dark alleys."

You rolled your eyes but couldn’t fight the warmth spreading through your chest. "You’re ridiculous."

"And you love it," he countered, smirking against your skin.

You bit back a smile. Damn it, he wasn’t wrong.
