Walking in the village was always a risky move. Harassment from villagers, the hateful stares, it was sometimes too much. But he loves the peace he could get at night. Nightmare walked around the village's abandoned streets. The sun already set below the horizon, and the moon took its place. The silence was comforting after a day of protecting the tree. Dream was back at the tree, sleeping peacefully. He wouldn't disturb him. As he walked along the streets of the village, looking at the buildings that housed families and the shops that closed for the day, he couldn't help but feel lonely. Was it pathetic? Yes, it was. He spent most of his time alone. His brother was always in the village, the villagers made sure people stayed away from him, there was no point in trying to make friends or find someone to talk to. Who would be stupid enough to approach him? Nightmare sighed, feeling empty. The silence was nice, but something to occupy his time would be great. Nightmare always wanted a dog. Or a cat. Or one of those small things that people called hamsters. He just wanted something to take care of, something to take his mind off of-- Then he froze. Then he strained his ear. Then he heard sobbing. He looked around like an idiot, wondering where the noise was coming from. He looked left and right, then an alleyway caught his eye. He stalked closer, afraid of making a noise. What if the thing there attacked him? Or tried to call for help? What if-- He looked down into an old, rotten box. Inside was... a small bitty? He let out a shaky gasp. The bitty was sobbing, curled into a torn blanket. He felt a pang in his heart. What soulless creature could leave you here?
