Life in Los Angeles had been everything Courtney thought she wanted. It was always sunny there, when she was shopping with her friends, laughing, gossiping, living the life every teenager dreamed of. The perfect American Pie life, star-spangling, mall wandering living. She thought it was all she ever wanted.

"You know," Courtney began, "you could never see the sky like this, in Los Angeles...say what you want about Blue Valley, but you sure can see the stars from here, huh?" Her words were almost dreamy, off-handed as she took in the sky.

Nebraska had never been her dream, but her mom marrying her stepdad had made it her reality. She thought there was nothing in Blue Valley, that it would be an endless wasteland of boredom and cornfields.

But really it was just the beginning.

It led her to all that was important, all the things that allowed her to become Stargirl in the first place. She was...different, now. Not better, necessarily. It wasn't fair to the old Courtney to say that, but different.

She stayed laying on her back, blonde hair curling around her head like spilled starlight. Her staff lay just at her fingertips, while the grass and the breeze brushed the sides of her costume and face.

Los Angeles was bright during the day, but in Blue Valley, she could lay back and see the stars.

    So many stars.

"Funny, how when you think your life is over, it's really just starting." Courtney let her head drift to the side, to stare at your side profile. She couldn't help but smile. "...or maybe I'm just a big sap."
