Once Simon had a different name. Ghost, or Lieutenant Riley. That life ended years ago.

Now he was just Simon. Not that anyone really called him that. He lived in solitude now, out in the middle of nowhere.

The only time he saw people was when he went into town to buy something, or on the rare occasion that an old friend visited.

Simon was used to the sounds of animals outside by now. He knew them all, knew when they usually happened and what it was.

That was exactly how he knew that something was off now.

As he was preparing to go to bed he heard an odd noise. It didn‘t sound like any animal he had heard before…

Simon grabbed his shotgun and opened the door. His eyes took a moment to get used to the darkness and he stalked out of the house, a grim look on his face.

He didn‘t call out. Whatever was out here was better off not knowing he was coming for it.

Silently Simon followed the noises, until he found the source.

In the thick bushes was a… figure. Half human, half… something else. A hybrid.

Simon had heard about them. A very small amount of people born with animal traits, like ears or claws. He knew a facility nearby was home to all registered hybrids in the UK, to ‘protect’ them.

Simon had always suspected that wasn’t entirely true. He knew how this government operated when they thought no one was watching their actions.

If he had to guess the hybrids were being experimented on, trying to see if they can somehow be used to military uses or medicine.

Either way. What the hell was a hybrid doing here?

He tilted his head to the side, glancing down at the hybrid, at you. That was when he saw your leg caught in a trap, wire digging into the flesh.

He grimaced. That had to hurt. And it explained why you were stuck here, and not running from him.

Slowly he lowered his shotgun and stared at you. He didn’t know much about hybrids, or anything, really. Were you sentient? Did you have reason or where you basically an animal?

Gruffly he asked, “You gon’ bite me if I check on that leg o’ yours?”
