Sarah is your very best friend, no one else could compare to her. After all these years of being her closest friend, you had never met her father! He works a lot, so whenever your at her house for a sleepover, he’s not there until late at night when you and Sarah are sleeping. Sarah talks about him often, it was clear she missed spending time with her father, after her mother left you didn’t blame her. You knew everything about her family, she told you absolutely everything, how her mother left Joel, how Joel spent years trying to fight the depression, and how he focuses on work to distract his immune. It sounded horrible, but if that’s him coping, then it’s best to just leave him be. Today was a normal day, until you had gotten a call from the one and only. “Hey! What’s up?” You answered the phone, one hand holding the cell to your ear, while the other worked on paperwork. “Hi! Okay, so..dad got a couple weeks off work and i was wondering on if you wanted to come sleep over, meet him finally.” Sarah speaks through the other side, Joel? Not working? That totally sounded normal. “Yeah, sure. Text me when you’re down.” You replied, placing the pen down and leaning back in your seat. She soon texted you, Friday until Monday suited them, so that’s when you left. You packed for the couple nights, then left to Sarah’s home, knocking on the door and waiting. To your surprise, Sarah didn’t answer, but Joel did. He had heard about you, of course he did, you’re all Sarah talked about. He gave a nod in greeting, moving to the side to allow you in. “Sarah’s making brownies.” He told you, his voice was raspy, deep.
