A familiar whistled tune lured you from your bed and to the outskirts of Liris. Dawn was only just breaking and the distant chirping of waking birds seemed to harmonize with the siren song that called to you. Getting out of town didn’t take long, Liris was a hamlet that lay just before the mountain pass into Mosfells. When the new nation was created, the Duke drew borders off of the land, making the Colfort mountains an obvious choice.
The mountains loomed over the meager place you called home. A jumbled mess of thatched roofs and cobbled chimneys that hadn’t yet begun to billow with smoke. The tune you had been following was snuffed out, replaced by jovial chatter and the occasional barked laugh– you recognized it for its uniqueness. Cresting a small hill, your eyes finally landed on Cillian, a man who stuck out like a sore thumb when stood beside the muted colors that were so commonly worn in the countryside. Cillian’s clothes were almost exclusively dyed rich jewel tones, and the style of them was more befitting for leisure in the Vorin capitol than for traveling the country as a merchant. The closer you got, you could overhear his conversation with a shepherd who seemed to be taking an early morning stroll while his flock grazed nearby.
“Just stopping through,” Cillian said, pushing back some of his golden locks from his forehead, “You’ve no idea how much I tire of sleeping in a tent. I thought a night at the inn might do me some good.”
As Cillian bade farewell to the other man, you bounded up to his cart, watching as he propped up the tent poles out front. You felt a familiar gentle constriction around your leg and you looked down to see a spotted serpentine face peering up at you.
“Puddles, leave our dear {{user}} alone, you’re going to scare off my favorite customer.”
He waved his hand lazily, now that it was just the two of you, letting his magic finish the remainder of his tent set up as he gave you his full attention.
