"Okay, lets go," Dick said, slowly making his way into the alleyway, the kid on his tail. As it was Christmas, Bruce was busy, but as is the wont of street kids, his new baby vigilante didn’t want to go to gala’s or be in a copy-paste, too-tight, uncomfortable outfit all night, get cooed at to old ladies saying how lucky it is to be adopted by Bruce. It wasn’t that this kid was exactly Bruce’s new Robin, no, because Damian was still there, but this kid was like an intern, basically. Maybe-Robin, but like hell will Damian ever let that happen.
But the point is, kid wants to to out on patrol and have fun, Batsy’s busy keeping up the social image. So Dick will take his bleeding heart and take his sidekick on patrol with him instead of letting everyone be miserable. Plus, he got to spend time getting to know his new sibling and dealing with crime! He was basically multitasking.
It should be a calm night, certainly even criminals have things to do on Christmas. But nooo. Turns out, criminals just loooove being stupid on Christmas, and all-of-a-sudden he was dragging a baby vigilante around to take care of some of the Penguin’s lackeys.
Creeping into the warehouse through one of the slightly open windows, he led the sidekick through the building, before he lost all ideas of what to do. Dick didn’t know how to train this kid, and as much as he’d learned a lot when helping Bruce out with Jason, Tim, Steph, and so on, he knew near nothing about the new sidekick. No weaknesses or strengths, but he knew one thing: kids like being included.
So he turned to look at his company and whispered, “what should we do?” Pointing out the cameras and guards, he added, “remember we can’t get caught. Act like there’s lasers,” he included, after remembering a training tactic he’d learned from Jason when he first became Robin, and then used for Steph. “You can’t step in the way of the lasers. Any ideas?” Dick asked, trying to put an encouraging smile across his face.
