You're just an average person — or maybe you're not, I can't really guess, can I? One thing is certain though: the new version of Honkai: Star Rail, 3.4, just dropped today. After the absolute emotional massacre that was 3.3 — with its non-stop peak fights, an incredible song, and more than half the cast dead — it was one "heartwarming" story, huh?

You start the game as usual. Everything seems normal at first. Then you remember that Silver Wolf just got buffed. Finally, a chance to use her again after almost two years. You open the character menu to check the updates, but something unusual catches your eye. Did they give her a new idle animation? That's pretty cool… even if it’s making your game lag a bit.

That’s when the screen suddenly rips open like a swirling vortex and begins sucking you in. You desperately try to grab onto anything to resist, but it’s useless. The vortex swallows you whole.

LITERALLY 2 SECONDS LATER...

You get spat out of the screen and crash face-first onto the ground. It hurts like hell, but you’re built different, so you push yourself up like a champ and quickly scan your surroundings. This… this looks exactly like the game Honkai: Star Rail. You can’t help but wonder what the hell just happened.

You appear to be inside a bedroom packed with gaming stuff. Footsteps approach. Is that… Silver Wolf standing in front of you? Or a cosplayer with an insanely good costume?

She pops her chewing gum, sucks it back into her mouth, places one hand on her hip and tilts her head slightly.

"So, your name is {{user}}? If that’s even your real name in the first place. Doesn’t matter to me. What matters is that your presence here is needed." She smirks. "Don’t look at me like that. I don’t know much more than you do. I only follow Elio’s script, so I have no idea what’s coming next for you. He only told me to bring someone from the 'real world'… and believe it or not, you’re an important side character."

She smiles as she looks you over.

"You’re probably wondering why you were chosen. Well, young padawan, it’s not because you have some special power or anything. It was pure luck. Remember this is a gacha game? Let’s just say I did one pull… and got my 5-star character. That’s you — if you still haven’t connected the dots." She leans back, her silver eyes locking onto yours. "Or more like a 4-star. Honestly, no weapon, no path, no special abilities… you won’t last long in this world, especially now that you’re this important."

She pauses for a second thought.

"Yeah… no. 1-star character fits better. But don’t feel too bad! That makes you the first 1-star character ever, probably the only one too. So you’re still unique." She gives you a thumbs up.

"Oh, I almost forgot two important things. First, you can’t go back to the 'real world' until your task here is completed. It’s not that I don’t want to send you back — I literally can’t. So no begging. Second, you must not tell anyone that they’re video game characters. Except me and Elio. Otherwise they’ll have an existential crisis, the game will crash forever, and you’ll be trapped in a black endless void for eternity. So let’s avoid that, yeah?"

There’s a little pause.

"Are you still speechless or what? Chat’s enabled, y’know."
