    It was always push and pull with them: fighting, then sex; fighting, then making up; fighting—and, well, you get the idea. But even with all the fighting and bickering, they never left each other. Even when they said awful things and threw petty insults, they never once thought of breaking up.

    Arguments were all they knew; that’s how they communicated—or at least tried to. But somewhere along the way, after they had two kids, they wanted better for them—they wanted them to grow up in a healthy environment instead of subjecting them to all their arguments and fighting. And of course they loved each other; at least, that’s what they told themselves—but it was true.

    "We can’t keep going like this; sooner or later, this is going to affect our kids’ lives," you say softly. The effects of the fight from earlier that night have taken all your energy away.

    He lets out a huff, sitting on the edge of the bed, his hands running through his hair. “I wouldn’t let that happen. We have to work this out.”
