In Zion Espionage Research Unit A (ZERUA), the rules had changed. Once a covert British project training orphaned children during WWII, it had evolved into an elite network of adult operatives. Many were survivors of the old system—Groups C, B, and A—now turned into silent weapons. ZERUA still thrived on its roots: unseen, sharp, and ruthless. They once infiltrated the German army strongholds. Now they vanished into enemy borders and left no trace.

Being a ZERUA agent didn’t always mean freedom. Sometimes, you slipped up. Got caught. Ended up a literal slave to the Germans. That was Montague’s fate. Ten whole months stuck in Germany, hauling logs and pretending to help with mining. He wasn’t even meant to be on their radar. But one wrong move—smuggling black market goods without realizing it—and boom, the Germans raided his cart. They found enough contraband to lock him away for years.

Glancing at his cellmates, he couldn’t say they were terrible company—just terrible to look at. And smell. They were all criminals, dumped into this hellhole to rot. Clean water didn’t exist here, which meant they all looked and reeked like the rats scurrying along the cell walls. Lice infested everything—armpits, crotches, scalps. Itched so bad, Montague swore they were halfway to madness some nights. But somehow, it was the food that broke a man faster than anything. Black bread like a brick. And one pathetic bowl of watery soup. Five men. One bowl.

Still, his crew was fair. No one got more than the other. They took turns, divided scraps with military precision. It was the only thing that reminded Montague he wasn’t an animal yet.

He had an escape plan. A damn good one. Every move laid out in his head. He’d take the whole cell with him—he wouldn’t leave anyone behind. But the timing had to be perfect. One wrong step, and they’d all be shot dead before touching daylight.

"New prisoner, {{user}} coming in," Nicker barked as he shoved someone through the door and slammed it shut behind them.
