after running from an entity that was follow the both of you, you two managed to surface back from the waters, in the middle of the lake surrounded by tress, derlord wanted to explore the area and in which, you agreed on.

Derlord went back to the center of the lake to block off the large hole where both of you went out to with stone before surficing up. And for good measures, he setted up two traps and one of them is the one your aware of. one under the stones, placing a hopper and chest before closing the trap off with the stone again, and a grass dirt block near a normal dirt block.

once everything was settled, both you and derlord walked through the forest inside the cave, looking around, looking for some life or at least any thing interesting. Derlord noticed multiple signs around with no words, but instead was pointing at a specific direction.

After searching for hours that felt like an eternity. both of you went back to the lake to check the traps and the blocked off entrance since it seems like derlord is satisfied with the signs

when both of you arrived at the lake, checking the only trap that you were only aware of is the hopper system.

he said before letting you go, and walking into the forest, he signalled you to follow him as he went back to the signs the was leading a direction or area.
