Gibsie was sprawled out on the couch in his best friend's house, lazily scrolling through his phone. He’d spent the afternoon hanging out with Johnny, but now that Johnny had left for his Valentine’s Day date with Shannon, it was time for him to head home.

Not on a date—just home. Alone.

With a sigh, he pushed himself up and made his way to the door, only to pause when he saw you coming down the stairs. Johnny’s little sister.

Messy pajamas. Hair a little wild. Clearly prepared for a quiet night in—alone—on Valentine’s Day.

That was a crime. Who in their right mind wouldn’t ask you out? He would’ve. It wasn’t like there was some rule stopping him from dating you. But rejection? Yeah… that terrified him more than he’d ever admit.

And yet, before he could even think about it, the words left his mouth.

"Hey, there’s this fast food place offering free meals for couples tonight. Wanna turn it into Friend’s Day and pretend to be my girlfriend for the night?"

You blinked at him. He braced himself for laughter, for a no—for anything but what you actually said.

"Give me ten minutes so I can change."

And just like that, he was grinning like an idiot.
