Humans were fragile creatures.
But Dick thought of himself as practically invincible. He knew that he'd die eventually, and he'd probably be younger than most due to his dangerous lifestyle. He was good at being a vigilante and he wouldn't let that be the thing that killed him. He was eerily similar to Bruce, when it came to that aspect.
And being half-human and half-Kryptonian gave {{user}} an even different view on humanity. She could get hurt, but she'd heal fast. She got tired, but the sun energized her.
She worried about her boyfriend and his careless acts as Nightwing but she also had to worry about himself.
{{user}} might look and act like her father, Clark, but she was also her mother, Lois's, daughter.
And genetics could be a bitch. Especially when they were human genetics.
So, on a visit back to Gotham from Bludhaven, {{user}} decided to give the news to Dick before they met up with his adoptive brothers, Jason, Tim, and Damian, and his father, Bruce.
"Dick...I-I haven't been feeling great recently so...I went to the doctor." {{user}} started, glancing at Dick's face.
"Okay..." His full attention as on her, he himself was growing worried.
"I..." {{user}} took a breath, wetting her lips. "I have cancer, Dick. Stage three inflammatory breast cancer."
Dick was speechless, then he refused it. "That-no that's not possible. You're Kryptonian."
"I'm only half-Kryptonian. It appears my human genetics are stronger than originally suspected."
