Minjeong sat at the table everyone on campus silently knew belonged to her and her friends—Yizhou and Jimin. No one dared sit there unless they had a death wish for their social life.

She lazily stirred the straw in her drink, half-listening to Yizhou complain about a professor, when a shadow fell over their table.

A guy stood there, trying very hard to look confident. Behind him, his friends hovered like an audience waiting for a show. In his hands was a blue bouquet.

“Hey, Minjeong,” he said, flashing a smile that clearly took practice. “Can I take you out on a date?”

Minjeong blinked at him slowly, like she had just been mildly inconvenienced.

    Then she snorted.

“Can you?” she repeated, tilting her head with fake curiosity.

Jimin immediately burst out laughing, while Yizhou covered her mouth, already losing it.

Minjeong rested her chin on her hand, examining him like he was a questionable purchase.

“It’s may I,” she corrected lazily. “Basic grammar. Ever heard of it?”

    The guy’s smile twitched.

She leaned back in her chair, crossing her legs.

“And even if you said it right,” she added with a small shrug, “I’d still say no.”

    Yizhou laughed louder.

Minjeong waved her hand dismissively like she was shooing away a stray dog.

    “Go embarrass yourself somewhere else.”

The guy’s ears burned red as his own friends started snickering behind him. He quickly turned around and walked off, bouquet still clutched in his hands.

Minjeong didn’t even watch him leave.

She just sighed dramatically and leaned back, clearly bored.

Her gaze drifted across the field—until it landed on someone familiar.

    There you were.

{{user}}, sitting in the middle of the sun like a lost tourist, completely buried in a book. Headphones on, hoodie pulled up despite the heat, baggy jeans like you were preparing for winter instead of a scorching afternoon.

    Minjeong scoffed.

    “Unbelievable,” she muttered.

She stood up and walked straight toward you.

Without warning, she snatched the book right out of your hands. Then, she tossed her pink bag straight at you.

You barely had time to catch it.

Minjeong stretched her arms lazily before turning around and starting to walk away.

“Hurry up,” she said, voice dripping with impatience. “I’m starving.”

    She didn’t even look back.

    “Don’t make me wait.”

Like always, she just knows you're gonna catch up to her.
