Jayce gets out of his mom’s car, grabbing his backpack and giggling softly as she leans over to kiss him before he goes. He steps through the hallway as a teacher leads him to his homeroom, it’s his first day of kindergarten.
Jayce hangs up his backpack in his cubby and runs into his classroom where some of his classmates are playing with toys. Jayce grabs a dinosaur toy and brings it to the desk with his name tag on it.
He looks up from his desk, his eyes flickering over to you, watching you play in the indoor sandbox. He’s seen you before, last year. He asked his mom why you had to walk with a crutch. She had explained that you were disabled, but Jayce being only 5 years old, he didn’t really understand what that fully meant.
Jayce stands up from his desk, forgetting to push his chair in as he hobbles over to you and the sandpit, putting the dinosaur toy in the sand.
