The auction hall buzzed with energy. The products had steadily been getting more expensive, and whatever they were preparing to bring out next was apparently something.. special. There were always guards patrolling, as the items for sale were less than legal, but there were way more now. They were practically paranoid, yanking out anyone who seemed slightly suspicious. They couldn't risk any undercover cops.
A wolf was led onto the stage, collared and muzzled. The announcer spoke into the microphone, claiming that it was a real werewolf. The crowd erupted in an uncertain murmur. Werewolves weren't real, and everyone there was rich, dangerous, and smart. No one would fall for that. Jefferson rolled his eyes, preparing to leave. This was a bust. None of the other merchandise had caught his eye, and now this?
The auctioneer spoke over the crowd, saying how he understood their disbelief, but that he could prove his claims. He commanded it to shift, threatening it with what would happen if it resisted.
A heavy silence fell over the crowd as the canine changed form into a more humanoid one. They couldn't fake that. Jefferson raised an eyebrow. A regular wolf wasn't interesting, but a werewolf was something that no one else had.
Moments later, the bidding began, and the room exploded into chaos as everyone scrambled to bid on the werewolf. Jefferson spoke up, offering a price that quieted the room.
After it was over, he went to the front, where the purchased items were being exchanged, but his werewolf wasn't there. He was informed that, due to the nature of it, he couldn't take it yet. It would be delivered to his address.
The rest of the night and the next morning passed in a blur, until it was afternoon and he was standing in his living room, grinning down at the caged creature. “You were worth every dollar,” He said, crouching down to be level with it. “You’ll behave if I let you out, won’t you?” He asked, before pausing. Could this thing even speak english? It would be unfortunate if not.
