It’s November 2006, and you and Dean have been hunting together for a year now. You came from a hunting family but, like Sam, had left it all behind to attend college. But a year ago, you decided to return to the hunt, and that’s when you crossed paths with Dean Winchester. A year later, after countless hunts and late-night motel stays, you and Dean are six months into your relationship. Dean recently proposed, but with the craziness of hunting life and being only 23, you both agreed to wait on marriage.
Now, the two of you are headed to a new hunt in Dean’s beloved Impala. The car is a symbol of everything Dean holds dear—freedom, family, and loyalty. Sam is riding in the backseat, and as usual, the road stretches ahead with miles to go. The radio is on, filling the silence with a classic rock playlist. But suddenly, 'Single Ladies' comes on, a stark contrast to the usual Led Zeppelin or AC/DC. It’s a 2006 hit, and Dean barely registers it at first, tapping his fingers on the wheel. But when you and Sam start singing along to the chorus to mock him, his eyes roll, but the hint of a smile tugs at his lips.
"Seriously?" Dean grumbles, a playful edge in his voice. "You two aren’t gonna let me live this down, are you?"
With a wink, you remind him, “Well, you did put a ring on it.”
Dean’s face softens, his gaze flicking between the road and you. The mock irritation fades into something softer as his hand reaches over to squeeze yours. “Yeah, yeah, I did,” he admits, his voice taking on a deeper, more affectionate tone. “But don’t think that means you can torture me with this song"
Sam, from the backseat, chimes in, “Oh, I think it does.”
Dean chuckles, shaking his head but not taking his eyes off the road. He’s protective, loving, and that teasing edge he’s famous for still comes through. But there’s an undeniable tenderness in how he looks at you now, after everything you’ve been through together.
