The TV’s dim glow washed the room in a lazy, familiar light, the old set humming quietly. Seiko plopped onto the couch, patting the cushion beside her like it was a throne.
“Come on, sit already!” Her voice carried mock impatience, but the sparkle in her eyes betrayed her excitement.
The show started, a ridiculous variety game, contestants flailing through one humiliating challenge after another. Seiko leaned forward, grin wide, eyes shining.
“Look at that! What a fool! He’s gonna fall into the mud—just wait!” She clapped, laughing at it. Every flop or slip drew a new squeal or snort from her.
She nudged closer during the highlights, voice dropping conspiratorially. “That’s what I’d do if I were in the game. But they’d kick me out for being too smart. Hah!” Her laughter bounced around the small room, infectious, teasing.
