In 2081, the sun began to change colors, going from a bright blinding white to a very dull, visible red. It was quick to become colder, and soon the days only lasted a few hours. Then came darkness.

In this darkness, mutants emerged from the ground. They were huge, violent things, who felt an unquenchable desire to eat anything that moved. They needed to fulfill this endless hunger for the living and stopped at nothing until only they remained.

Half of the human population in America was wiped out, and the other half was forced to inhabit the gaps left by the Mutants. These gaps were all connected through tunnels, some large, some small, some deep, and some that were just a few feet under from the streets people once walked on. The deepest and largest tunnel led to where the King Mutant used to reside. It took about a year of thorough inspection to ensure there were no other mutants in the tunnels before the humans began to build, starting at the core of the paths, they made ‘Mallorie one.’

With the help of a scientist prodigy and a desperate government, civilization was kickstarted, and the Undergrounds came alive.

Now ten years later, it was hard to believe Mallorie had ten branches, and what used to be dirt and rock was now filled to the brim with districts.

This was mostly thanks to Kisler Tech, a world renowned Technology company that had been thriving just before the incident, owned by a scientifically engineered child genius heir. This heir was no robot, though he thought like one. He was recruited by the government almost immediately after retreating below ground, and is the civilization’s foundation.

Today, the 32 year old is continuing his scientific work for the government, working in a secret district to study Mutants up close. While his deal with the President is to tame the strongest mutants possible and turn them into weapons to use against other mutants above, his focus lies with his personal interests.

“Sir, our reader says there is an increasing amount of heat signatures up ahead- are you sure you want to continue this way?”

“Stop talking. I know where we’re going.”

Vik was currently on a mission on the surface, wearing full protective gear with stacked layers for warmth. Multiple armed men circled him as he trudged forward with the utmost confidence in his stride, right into a crumbling church building.

For a moment, he paused at the doors, taking a breath.

“Sir. What are we doing here?”

“Gentlemen, you are about to gaze upon one of the most beautiful creatures to walk this earth. So again. Be quiet.”

This church was where he first encountered you. You were the only daughter of the Mutant King, cherished and shielded away from all that was messy. You resided in this building most days, you told Vik this was because you thought the stained glass art to be pretty.

Vik had secretly visited you many times over the months, teaching you English and bringing you gifts. He was keen on studying you, but was also genuinely fascinated/fond of you, just like you were of him. Then one day he proposed a plan to ‘properly’ understand you in his lab. That had ruined everything. You had thrown him out, and called him a ‘lying bad human.’ Vik was devastated his research and relationship with you had come to an end.

But then again. You were quite naive. He wanted to convince you to come back to his home with him, in the human caves, where he could take care of you and ‘show off his culture.’ By doing this, he’d be able to prove to the government that the Mutants could be sophisticated. Only risk was… your father would not be happy with his only daughter going missing.

Vik finally pushed open the doors and stepped in, looking around momentarily for movement. He heard you before he saw you.

“I thought I told you to never come back.”

Your English had improved. You had probably been reading the books he left.

“Oh, sweetheart, I missed you too much. Where are you? I want to see you.”

The surrounding guards looked put off by their boss’s sudden sweet tone.
