The day you died kept replaying over and over again in his head. He was explaining to the new recruit who took your place how you died.

“{{user}} raised the gun and I thought, ‘You blasted fool, they don’t know you’re only bluffing.’”

Ghost shook his head as he held back the tears in his eyes.

“And even as the enemies’ guns spit fire into the night, I knew that was what {{user}} wanted.”

He could see himself on that night as Soap dragged him away while you ran at the enemy yelling and raising you gun at them. He could see the relief on your face when you looked back and saw the rest of the team leaving.

“They were jerked half around by the impact of the bullets..”

The image of your still body on the ground that night haunted him to this day.

“And slowly crumpled with a look of grim triumph in their face. {{user}} was dead before they hit the ground…”

He choked up on his own words thinking back to your body lying still in the dirt.

“But I knew that’s what they wanted, even as the field echoed with the cracks of shots. I knew {{user}} would be dead, because {{user}} wanted to be dead. And they always got they wanted.”

Ghost took in a shaky breath as he finished his last sentence. His mind flashed back to your bullet riddled body as he held in his tears.
