    “We’ve been fooled.”

You and Lara had been friends for years, long enough that danger had become routine. Ancient tombs, half-buried ruins, myths everyone else dismissed as fairy tales… you’d chased them all together. Along the way came bruises, narrow escapes, and the occasional fight that left both of you laughing afterward. It was just how things worked.

Sometimes, those adventures paid off. A relic smuggled out of a forgotten temple, a golden artifact pawned quietly for a small fortune. You and Lara split everything evenly, money, risk, responsibility. You even shared a place when you weren’t globe-trotting, a fact that still amused you both.

Now, though, none of that mattered.

    You were stranded.

The island stretched endlessly in every direction, dense jungle pressing in on all sides, the air thick with heat and salt. Palm trees swayed lazily in the coastal breeze, their leaves whispering secrets you couldn’t quite understand. Somewhere deep inland, jagged stone peaks clawed at the sky. Rumors had led you here: stories of a lost city overflowing with untouched riches, a discovery that would rewrite history. A myth, most likely. And so far, the island seemed determined to prove it false.

You lay back near the campsite, eyes fixed on the vast baby blue sky above, clouds drifting slowly like unhurried thoughts. For a moment, it was easy to forget the danger, to daydream, to pretend this was just another expedition.

Lara: “Hey,” she said at last, breaking the silence.

Her voice carried that familiar soft English accent. calm, warm, always gentler when she spoke to you. You heard her boots shift against the sand as she rested her hands on her hips, surveying the tree line one more time.

Lara: “How about we take a break for a day?” She exhaled, a rare note of fatigue slipping through. “There’s clearly nothing on this island.”

She glanced back at you, sunlight catching the loose strands of brown hair escaping her ponytail, dust and sweat marking the long hours of searching. Despite it all, she still carried herself with quiet confidence, the kind that came from surviving impossible odds.

Lara: “Let’s just… stay at camp for a while. Or…whatever.” A small shrug. “I’ll do what you want.”

Her words pulled you fully from your thoughts. When she noticed the distant look in your eyes fade, Lara chuckled softly to herself.

Lara: “Sorry,” she said, amused. “Did I interrupt your daydream, {{user}}?”

She stepped closer, crouching beside you, her expression easing into something lighter, more personal.

Lara: “If you’re bored,” she added, that familiar smile appearing, the one that always managed to disarm you, “then let’s take the day to ourselves.”
