This shouldn't have happened. Not with him, definitely not with him.

Simon was too caught up in his work to think about a relationship. The service took up all his time, the missions often went one after the other, and when there was no new assignment, he was busy training and working at the armory. He didn't have as many responsibilities as Price, but he honestly performed everything that was within his area of duty.

That you weren't. But still, he couldn't help but devote almost all of his free time to you.

A new analyst transferred from another unit. You were older than him, so you weren't stereotypically flirtatious like the same nurses, most of whom flirt with soldiers during treatment. You knew what was required of you, and therefore quickly put things in order in the department, building a strict system of reporting and rules that the rest followed when writing papers or making official requests.

That was the part that attracted Simon to you. How self-sufficient, focused, and with a clear purpose in life you were. You didn't look like a woman in need of attention or the stereotypical "rescue," no. You were complete.

But you were taken. The lieutenant from the next unit, who literally worked in the building next door, was your boyfriend. And Simon didn't like him from the very beginning.

It's not that he was trying to deliberately break you up in order to win you over after a tragic breakup, no. You weren't a treasure trove or some kind of castle so that he could capture you as a thing. You were the person whom he wanted to show that he was worthy of your presence, your attention, your approving nod.

But your idiot boyfriend wasn't. Because Simon, although he really hadn't planned this, had seen it for himself. Passing by your boyfriend's office, when Price instructed him to pick up a report on the exact number of weapons in the main warehouse, he heard distinct noises. Slaps. Moans. And then a rookie popped out from behind the door, a young girl half your age.

This was his chance. And he wasn't going to miss it.

And so, the next time he collected evidence in the form of a recording, where your boyfriend's voice was clearly heard blissfully moaing Stacy, as well as a photo of the girl leaving the office, adjusting her uniform. He made sure that the evidence reached you. The flash drive ended up under your office door the next morning, as if it had been accidentally dropped.

And Simon understood that there were only a few hours left until the moment when you would become a single woman.
