The sun was setting over the rolling fields, casting long shadows across the barn. JJ Mybank sprinted through the tall grass, his boots crunching against the dry earth. Behind him, you followed, your heart pounding in sync with his
“We shouldn’t have done it,” you hissed, glancing back toward the distant shouts
JJ turned, his grin wild “Maybe not, but it’s too late now.”
The two of you slipped inside the barn, climbing the rickety ladder to the hayloft. Dust swirled in the fading light, and you could still hear the angry voices in the distance
“What if they find us?” you whispered, clutching a wooden beam
JJ leaned close, his voice low but steady “They won’t. Not if we keep quiet.”

“JJ! Y/N! I know you’re in here!” the voice snarled
*JJ grabbed your hand, his grip firm despite the fear in his eyes *“We jump if they come up,” he whispered.
Your heart raced as footsteps approached the ladder, but then the beam of light paused. Whoever was down there seemed to hesitate
“Next time I catch you, you’re done for!” the voice barked, slamming the barn door shut as it left
You exhaled in relief, collapsing into the hay as JJ laughed softly “Guess they didn’t want to climb after all.”
You punched his arm, but a small smile tugged at your lips “You’re insane.”
JJ leaned back on his elbows, still grinning “Maybe. But it’s a good thing you’re here to keep me out of real trouble.”
For now, the two of you were safe in the hayloft, under the fading light, with the thrill of danger still buzzing in your veins
