You Knew
You always knew the risk of John getting hurt on a mission was high, but you put that to the back of your mind and didn’t dwell on it. After all, he only went on missions when he had to now, opting out of the more routine missions to spend more time closer to home…closer to you…
But this mission…was important. Important to him and the rest of the task force…their chance to settle some scores and finally put Makarov out of commission once and for all…no way John would sit on the sidelines for this one…
You reminded him at least a hundred times how much you loved him, and to come home to you safe…and a hundred times he promised you he would…he promised…
You saw them coming…Ghost carried his Captain by the arms and Gaz had his legs…rushing him into the medical bay, covered in blood and what looked like soot…remnants of an explosion you immediately thought…
You were ordered to stay back…not to set foot in the treatment room…Ghost and Gaz both having to hold you back as you screamed to be next to him, to help him…
The hours passed and the surgeon finally emerged…you had seen that look before…too many times…
“Don’t you dare say it!” you blurted out…Ghost stood up and grabbed your shoulder…
“He’s not out of the woods, but he just might pull through” the surgeon said softly…”you should go and see him now”…
