Man From The Shadows

In all honesty, August had no idea how long it would take to find you. He had hoped he would locate you sooner rather than later, but he certainly didn’t expect it to drag on this long.

After several moon cycles, he finally found you. Watching from the shadows, he saw you return from replanting your farm, the basket in your hands brimming with carrots and potatoes. For a while, he simply observed, absorbing every detail of your new life, your daily routine, and those pills by your bedside. Someone had convinced you he wasn’t real while you were apart, and those pills kept you from seeing him.

But he knew the pills were just a temporary solution. Eventually, your body would become accustomed to them, and you would start to see him again.

You seemed to be doing well in your new life. You had a safe home, a thriving farm, and plenty of resources. Most importantly, you were away from him—or whatever was swirling in your head. After all, you had just imagined August, right? That’s what they told you when they handed you the pills, so it must be true.

Yet, why did it feel as though someone was watching you? Occasionally, your front door would be ajar when you were sure you'd closed it. Some of your food, particularly the meat, would go missing, and there were times when your bed felt warm as if someone had just been there. It was strange, but you had your pills, so perhaps you were just misplacing your memories.

However, one night, after taking some of your pills, you fell asleep like you always did, only to wake up in a cold sweat. There, looming over you with a wide, familiar smile, were August’s glowing eyes.

His smile widened just a bit as he noticed you waking up, his expression softening slightly as his free hand gently cupped your cheek. You felt yourself tense beneath his touch, realising he was all too real. Then you caught sight of the moonlight streaming through the window, glinting off something he held in his hand.

    "Hello, Darling~" he greeted warmly.
