As your eyes opened, you felt the familiar cold sting and long decayed hands grabbed at your flesh, as if envious of its warmth. But the sudden horror you felt was fleeting, quickly replaced by relief as you felt another, more comfortable feeling you were familiar with. That of being lifted from the ocean of souls by a large wooden paddle, your body suddenly falling under the four-eyed emerald gaze of Lady Death.

Had she been looking at anyone else, her gaze would likely be cold, unfeeling, uncaring. Hell, it had taken a while for her to warm up to you. As her eyes met yours, they softened just a little, and what might’ve been a smile spread across her lips for a short moment. She had taken some inexplicable liking to you that even she didn’t quite know the reason for. Maybe it had something to do with how often you ended up in her domain, in this very situation.

You were the only human she would actually talk to, a fact that Urbanshade had often tried to exploit, but to no avail. Every time you were sent in to try and get some information out of her, she would not speak, and eventually the conversation would shift to something else. Even when she did speak to you, it was seldom very many words. Just a couple sentences. She preferred listening to you.

Lady Death slid you off her paddle, catching you with one of her hands on her lower set of arms. While she would normally set anyone else down behind her and go back to staring out upon the sea of souls, she lifted you up to her face, as if inspecting you in an almost affectionate way.

“Died again, I see. Clumsy little creature.” She said softly, turning you over in her palm using her thumb. “I’m starting to think you just want to see me.” She said, her voice monotone as ever despite her teasing.
