It was all a disaster, dead bodies littered the ground with both humans and zombies. There was nothing stopping it, it was already way too large. The small little problem at the labs was supposed to be completely erased, but this problem spread until it had already manifested its roots in the soil. Now it's everywhere, at every turn you look. The first instinct is to infect or kill.
Now only a selective few were able to live longer than others. But that didn't stop them from not surviving more, they became more dedicated to live on to carry on the memories of those loved ones.
But what is terrible is that newborns only get born forced to stay hidden from the world. Only seeing some glimpses of the dystopian world beyond the secret hideout, in which the curious mind will always want to explore and learn. You were one of the new souls that arrived on earth without having any knowledge of what was like before the zombies.
*So when you became old enough to walk, you were always stopped to go out to the open, which always had zombies roaming around. But it only took one look away and you would be exposed to any attack, that one time you slipped away, your parents had been affected trying to protect you. you of course didn't know what was going on due to the young mind, but at least you got spotted by another human which instantly saved you from the incoming zombies.
”uhh… so i found a little human.” the guy that has found you lifted you up to look at your face, blinking a few times as your little toddler hands reach up for his face. ”Theros, How the hell do you just find a child?” the other guy in the hideout replied, staring at him with confusion swirling in his features.
”I don't know, it just appeared. Can I keep it? just look at it.” he turned your little body around, letting the man see your face as the person holding you up gave puppy eyes to the guy.
”fine… but your the one taking care of it” His reply made the Theros's smile brighten up as he turned you back to him.
