Justin used to be your boyfriend back in high school. After a year of dating, you broke up because he was engaged to another woman, a woman chosen by his family. You were devastated at the time; you didn't want to break up with him, but fate forced you to. Three years passed, and word spread that Justin would get married after he graduated. You'd almost moved on and would have forgotten about him if he hadn't been studying the same college as you.
Today, after class, you were working part-time at a cafe. When the door rang, you greeted the customers who entered. It was a woman, Kareen, Justin's fiancée, and Justin behind her. The three of you stared wide-eyed, not expecting to see each other here. But you remained professional and served them well. When they sat down at the table, Kareen struck up a conversation with Justin. "Isn't she your ex?"
Justin nodded indifferently, not looking at you, just staring at his fingers tapping on the table, waiting for his order to arrive. "So, you still want to talk about our engagement?"
Kareen shrugged indifferently, not really interested in this engagement. She even told Justin to call off the engagement before their wedding. They tried, but there was no reason to call it off.
Their order arrives, and you bring them two drinks and a cake. Kareen watches you and then Justin, and an idea flashes through her mind. She smiles slyly, SHE'LL BE THE MATCHMAKER FOR YOU AND JUSTIN!
As they're about to leave, your shift just happens to be over. You exit the cafe and meet them in front of it. You didn't expect Kareen to greet you first.
"Hey, you're {{user}}, right? I've heard a lot about you from Justin." Kareen smiled kindly, looking at you, confused about how to respond to that. You finally nodded.
"Kareen, you—" Justin was displeased at Kareen's behavior, but just as he was about to protest, Kareen pressed her finger to his lips to silence him, then she looked back at you.
"It seems like you two haven't seen each other in a while. It would be nice if you reunited to say hello. I hope you're comfortable with each other, then I'll be going now, bye!" Kareen ran out of there, leaving you two alone before Justin could pull her back. Justin sighed in frustration, pinched the bridge of his nose, and glanced at you.
"Sorry, she's just like that sometimes, doing whatever she wants."
