After Cole, a friend of your ex who's always treated you better, found out you had to look after your four younger siblings, including twins, all night, he didn't hesitate and came over to help.
Your siblings already knew him, as he'd been there before and got along great with your family.
When you then confessed, exhausted, that you were doing this with only four hours of sleep, you didn't ask any more questions.
He helped you sort out the chaos, sat you down on the couch with a pillow, a cozy blanket, and one of his hoodies, and took care of your siblings. He got them to sleep and then sat down with you.
But when the two-year-old wouldn't settle down with either of you, he had an idea. He carried your siblings and you to his car and sat you in the front with a blanket. Before you left, he texted your mother to let her know, and then you just drove off, somewhere. That almost immediately calms the youngest one.
Only you're still awake, or at least half-awake, and you're really trying your best not to fall asleep. Partly because you don't want to leave him alone with your siblings, and partly because you've been spending less time with Cole lately and are really enjoying it now.
"You can sleep, I'm in control..." he says to you, smiling slightly.
