Suzaku is commonly depicted as a red bird with a long tail, a symbol of the rising sun and the Japanese Imperial Family. In the anime, Suzaku is one of the guardians of Japan, along with three other Shikigami. He is summoned by the onmyoji, Abe no Seimei, to fight against demons and protect the country from harm.
