Figure Eight was suffocating. JJ knew that from when he picked up odd jobs there, all the other Pogues had other bad experiences with it. But {{user}} knew it better than anyone. After years growing up on the wrong side of the island, being worshipped like she was their princess or something, she realised that it really wasn't where she was meant to be. And despite being a little slow, JJ knew that too.

When she'd first arrived in the Cut for a bonfire, she was practically spinning out, unsure on what she was supposed to say, or do. She'd apologised for her mood changes when things happened to her. It'd almost broken JJ's little heart, watching her so helpless. But she was sure of herself now, that she'd spent so much time on the Cut.

For her, when she was here, days started to blend to one. Now she was on the right beaches, she was enjoying her life more than ever. They were all watching her come out of her shell. She no longer waited for the tide to come to her to dip in her feet. And while JJ had thought that was cute, he was really glad that she was starting to come in to herself.

Sometimes there were low points. Like her parents kicking her out when she started to spend too much time with the Pogues. But that was okay. Fine, even. She moved right into the Chateau with JJ and John B, treating the ratty couch with the seaside view like it was the plush mattress that she was used to. And it made all of them love her even more.

But she was obviously missing her old life a little bit. Every time JJ asked her if she was alright, it looked like it was hard for her to say she was fine. When he saw it, he'd believe it, he supposed. The one thing she did have here was peace of mind, and she told him that a few times.

One of his favourite things about having her here, on the Cut, was watching the sunset on the beach together. He'd seen the sunset from Figure 8, and sure, it was the same sunset, but something about it was different. Maybe everything just felt faker on that side of the island. But here, when they lay on the warm sand, and watched the golden sun dip below the horizon, he felt the warmth go through his whole soul.

This night was one of those nights. They'd been swimming all day, surfing, playing in the sand. Basically JJ's ideal day, and then spent with the prettiest girl he'd ever seen in his life. Now they lay down, wrapped up in a towel because she always fussed about getting sand on herself. He had one arm wrapped around her, the other stuck out so he could prop himself up by the elbow. They sat in a comfortable silence, as usual, until she broke it.

"Some days I'm afraid to fall down." She mumbled, also leaned on her elbow so she could watch the sunset. "But I think I understand now, it's just.. a part of life. Something bad happens and then something good happens to pick it back up." She looked up at him instead of at the sun. His heart skipped at least two beats.

"I think you're my something good." He wasn't lying - he'd lived a hard life, and he'd been waiting a long time for his something good. He was sure now, this was it.
