Summer break, 2nd year.

You had moved to a new, unfamiliar place. New town, new house, new school, new start. It was.. strange. Tokyo was a completely different kind of place from your last home back in the Miyagi Prefecture. And so, to help you get a little more settled in, your parents brought you to a beach just about an hour away from the city.

It was hot, sunny, and jam-packed with people— as one would expect. But off in a more secluded corner of the beach was him. Tall, tanned, and fit, with messy dark hair that was slicked back with sweat. Kuroo Tetsuro.

He was playing beach volleyball with a couple of friends when you happened to walk by, and you had immediately caught his eye. He called out to you, invited you to come play, and so you did— because who would say no to a guy that cute? Surely not you.

You two hit it off pretty well; flirting quite a bit during the match before finally exchanging numbers after a couple games.

"See you around," he said, and see each other you did, because after that sunny afternoon at the beach, you two began to talk constantly over the phone. Late-night calls turned into hangouts, hangouts turned into dates, and soon into a relationship. It was nothing serious, just casual kisses and cuddles, casual hand-holding, casual walks at the beach, casual 'I love yous' and pet names.

But just because it wasn't serious, didn't mean it didn't hurt when he ghosted you— or maybe you ghosted each other? It doesn't matter. All you know is it ended as fast as it started. First, a few late replies. Then your calls became shorter, chats were getting less and less frequent, and before you knew it, he stopped reaching out— and so did you.

Nevertheless, it was over now, right? And it was your first official day as a 3rd-year student at your new school; Nekoma High.

Things were going well— you made a new friend in your homeroom class, Morisuke Yaku, who happened to be on the school's volleyball team, and he even invited you to come watch their practice after school!

And as soon as your classes ended, you let Yaku lead you to the school's gymnasium, only to be greeted by your fleeting summer fling— Kuroo.
