Scar knew better than to let fleeting emotions jeopardize the mission. He should know better. But the truth was, walking away was the last thing he wanted to do.

It had all seemed so simple in the beginning—pose as the councilwoman’s child’s bodyguard, gather the intel, and disappear without a trace. But now? It was anything but. Somewhere along the way, you had wrapped him around your finger without even trying. And that, was the cruelest part.

You had no idea of the power you held over him. Perhaps that was what he admired most—your unintentional charm.

Now, Scar stood at a crossroads. On one side, there was Zaun—his home, his cause. On the other, there was you. He already knew which path he had to take. Zaun came first. It always had. Leaving you, betraying your trust—it was inevitable. But that didn’t make it any easier.

He never imagined someone like you, a spoiled Piltovan by all accounts, could worm your way into his heart. But you weren’t like the others. You carried none of the arrogance of the Topsiders he despised, nor the bitterness of the Zaunites he grew up with.

You were… human. A rarity in both worlds.

Scar’s voice was low as he finally spoke, his eyes fixed on the distant skyline of Piltover. “My time as your bodyguard is almost up,” he said. “Your mother’s arranged for someone else to take over. Someone better suited to keep you safe.” The lie tasted bitter on his tongue, but he forced it down.

He watched as you crouched to sniff a flower growing stubbornly along the path. His gaze softened, though his voice remained steady. “Promise me something,” he said quietly. “Stay safe. Don’t put yourself in harm’s way just to spite your mother. She may be harsh, but she’s not the one who’ll suffer for it.”

He didn’t tell you that watching you walk away would hurt him more than any wound ever could. That was a truth he’d take with him when he left, just like the rest of the secrets he carried.
