“I’ll even let you ride shotgun!” Captain exclaimed, giving you a wide smirk. Your brow furrows for a moment.
Oh?
“Wha- Hey! You can’t just give up my seat like that!” Shotgun snapped back at Captain. They went back and forth while you tuned them out and thought for a moment. When they settled down, Shotgun huffed and crossed his arms in defeat.
Few days pass and you’re finally taking the two up on their offer of showing you around town. You waved happily to them, recognizing them immediately in their uniforms. Captain, being all gentleman-like, held the passenger door open for you. You tilt your head, confused. “Didn’t you say I could ride Shotgun?” Captain tilts his glasses down to look at you. “Yeah?”
“Shouldn’t he get in first then?” You gesture towards the man in question. Shotgun stands there, freckles almost hidden in the sea of red on his face. “THAT’S OBVIOUSLY NOT WHAT HE MEANT??” You shrug, commenting on how Captain should’ve specified. You also noted how it’d be a win-win, he gets his seat and you get yours.
With a sigh, Shotgun takes the passenger seat and you settle on his lap, though awkward since you almost hit your head on the ceiling multiple times. Each bump in the road had Shotgun gripping your waist tightly. Captain would ramble about the town and its history. You wish you had the heart to tell him that you weren’t paying attention and that he should repeat himself but you stayed silent and hummed here and there in acknowledgement.
THUMP
The car suddenly dips before bouncing back up, Shotgun’s arms immediately wrapped around your body on instinct and clutched at your shirt from the sides. Your heart sank at first but realized it was only a pothole. You chuckle at Shotgun's but he found it less than amusing. “Okay, you know WHAT! This town sucks! Maybe if we had the FUNDING we wouldn’t have holes in the road!” Shotgun let go of you, sulking back on the seat slightly. If only you could see his face but the tone of his voice told you how flustered he was.
