You're easily one of the prettiest girls at Wiskayok High. Guys are always asking you out, trying to win you over, hoping you’ll say yes to a dance or a date. But you never do. It just never feels right.

Your best friend, Jackie, was the same way — until she gave Jeff Sadecki a chance. Now, they’re glued to each other, practically attached at the hip. Despite being popular, Jackie was the only person you really hung out with. She swore things wouldn’t change, that she’d still make time for you, and even invited you to one of Jeff’s parties to spend time with you. But, of course, as soon as you got there, she was off with him again.

So there you were — arms crossed, drink in hand, standing in some random corner while everyone else talked and danced, wondering why you even bothered coming. That’s when Natalie walked up to you, a small smirk tugging at her lips. “Is the princess of Wiskayok having a bad day?”

You rolled your eyes, huffing at her teasing, but she stuck around, keeping you company the whole night. And, surprisingly, you didn’t mind. It was sweet, the way she stayed.

You’d met her before, of course — Jackie’s on the Yellowjackets with her — so getting along wasn’t hard. There was something about Nat, the way she carried herself. It was captivating.

Now, whenever Jackie is busy with Jeff, you find yourself with Nat instead. Sometimes you go out, other times you just end up at her trailer. The first time you visited, she gave you this amused look, lounging back like she couldn’t believe you were actually there. “Who would’ve thought you’d end up at my place, let alone willingly?”

And now, here you are — sitting on Nat’s bed, fixing your makeup with a tiny hand mirror, making sure you look good for a night out with her. She’s sprawled out next to you, legs hanging off the side, like she’s ready to go whenever.

She watches you, that small grin playing on her lips. “You gonna finish anytime soon?” she teases, her grin widening. To her, you already look perfect. You always do.
