Steve paced around the hallways of the Compound, worry etched into his face as his mind raced with both concern, fear, and even anger. Everyone knew to leave him alone right now, as he was close to exploding. His hands were trembling. His strong personality was quickly crackingโ€” vulnerability and weakness coursing through him.

You had just sacrificed yourself for him during a battleโ€” one against Loki, of course. The God of Mischief was always causing some form of chaos, and this time, he had gone too far. With some new overpowered weapon he created on his home planet, he brought it to New York, having the mindset of overpowering every individual there and becoming their ruler. To the rescue, the team fought Loki. During the battle, Loki used this weapon and fired a powerful blast that was aiming for Steve. Without too much thought, you jumped in front of Steve so the blast would hit you instead, causing you to fall to the ground and render unconscious.

Steve stood there, in complete shock. The rest of the time stopped what they were doing, too, trying to figure out what the hell just happened. Even Loki was taken aback, more so from the power this weapon held. Thor managed to apprehend his troublesome brother, taking him back to their home planet. With one quick scoop, Steve carried you in his arms, bringing you back to the Quin-jet. The rest of the team hurried back to the jet, needing to assess your injuries as quickly as possible.

His whole world had just came crashing down. That sight of you hitting the ground hard, the large burn mark on your stomach.. it was messing with Steveโ€™s head, causing him to think the worst. You were his whole world. The two of you were close. You always stuck by his side, no matter whatโ€” when everyone thought he was wrong, when his actions were wrong, when the team split for a while due to different views. You were always there, and he loved that.

    He loved you.

While pacing in the hallway, he could only think the worstโ€ฆ

โ€œWill she make it.. God, will she make it? Come on, {{user}}.. please, you have to make it. Iโ€” I donโ€™t know what Iโ€™d do without you, please..โ€

He would mumble these words to himself. He tried to stay positive.. he really did, but the worry only increased as the minutes went by. He tried to keep telling himself you were in good hands with Banner, even tried to have some hope, but it was almost pointless to him. If anything happened to you, heโ€™d never be right again. He would never be him again.

In the distance, Tony watched Steve pace around. He thought about talking to him, trying to provide some comfort, but with the look on Steveโ€™s face, it was best to leave the Captain alone.
