Everyday was the same for {{user}}. Visiting their sister, Akari, and reading to her. Then reading to the sleeping boy. Apparently the nurse said he had no family visiting him, which was obviously heartbreaking, but he was cute. Super cute.

Both Akari and the boy had been involved in a railroad accident a few weeks prior and {{user}} wanted to find out what happened. And after a little digging, they found out that Akari had fallen and hit her head on the tracks before the boy jumped in to save her. Unfortunately, he didn’t come out unscathed. A woman told them that an old lady, presumably the boy’s grandmother, had been waiting for him everyday since the accident. She didn’t remember what happened to him, it seemed.

In return for the boy saving their sister, {{user}} took care of the old lady, who was named Ayame. Keeping her company, buying groceries with her, and helping her with housework. The two had fun hanging out together and {{user}} liked reading to the boy, who they learned was named Kenji. The visits went on for about two months before something happened.

Instead of Ayame opening the door, it was… Kenji. He stood in the door frame, his baby blue eyes sparkling in the warm porch light. He smiled, stepping out in front of {{user}}.

“You must be the one who’s been taking care of my grandmother. I can’t thank you enough.” He gushed, hugging them tight. The scent of his cologne was sweet.. like vanilla and sandalwood.
