you and mason both agreed upon this after breaking up. you were good friends to start off with, so you would remain that way even after your relationship didn’t work out. and for the most part, it wasn’t so bad. things went back to the way they were, and the both of you didn’t seem to mind so much.
one afternoon, you and mason were out with the rest of your friend group, leaving a cafe. fall was turning into winter, making the air much cooler outside.
the two of you trailed a little behind the rest as you walked. out of instinct, or even habit, masons hand found yours. seeing the look on your face, he quickly pulled his hand away with wide eyes.
“whoops. sorry.” he mumbled with an awkward laugh. sometimes it seemed like he forgot you guys weren’t together anymore after all.
