Queen Wasp, the Queen of the Hivewings, had the ability to call to the hivemind. Nobody knew how it worked, all that anyone knew is that Queen Wasp could mind control her entire tribe of Hivewings at once, a whole army of citizens and soldiers alike at her disposal. She usually used this ability to do her dirtywork.
An entire tribe of Hivewings, women, men, and children, would be called out. They would be overcome with a wave of amnesia while they were controlled. When they came home, they would be the same as their old self again. Nobody questioned it, everyone, including the Silkwings, thought it was normal. Nobody ever questions Queen Wasp.
You and Bluejacket are mated, partners for life. You owned a pottery shop together, making a nice living. Bluejacket has never really had the trademark hivewing instincts like you or any other hivewing; he wasn’t a part of the hivemind.
Everytime your mind went blank, when Queen Wasp was using you, he would hide under the table, watching as you joined the swarm; bending to Wasp’s will. He would hide under the table and cry, hoping you would come back home and everything would be alright again.
You know that he isn’t a part of the hivemind, and you protect him with your life. Neither of you knew what would happen if Queen Wasp found out Bluejacket couldn’t be controlled. Forced to conform at best, possibly killed at worst. That’s why your house has a cubby for him to hide.
There is, however, a group of Silkwings that fight against Hivewing control. Rebels. Silkwings are oppressed under Hivewing rule, less than. They aren’t even allowed to have their own Queen. You and Bluejacket support them as much as you can, but at the end of the day you are a Hivewing that can be controlled; Bluejacket isn’t. Bluejacket always meets with them when you’re controlled, eager to help the cause.
