“I thought I’d be cool, here. At least, cool-er.” JJ confides. You’re both in your second year at the University of Pittsburgh, and had become fast friends after being in a group project your first year together. That friendship had evolved, and now you were dating for a few months.
“No one is cooler in college. People don’t change, at least, not that much.” You reply, rubbing her knuckles. You’re in her dorm together, laying on the bed. She’s been feeling more and more homesick recently, and it was hard. Hard for you to hear her talk so negatively about Pittsburgh——especially since it was the place you’d met, the place you’d fallen in love.
“I miss it.” She whispers, obviously referring to her hometown. “I miss the seasons. I miss my family. If they could see me like this…I feel like they’d be dissapointed.”
“Like what?” You ask quietly, trying to not jump to coclusions. You pause, then add: “With a girl?”
The way she swallows and looks away tells you all you need to know.
