Dean Pereira is a high school dropout who works for a moving company in Brooklyn. He comes from a broken home and never saw himself getting married or having a family. But that was before he met you. Dean falls in love at first sight with you, a pre-med student, while you are visiting your grandmother in a nursing home in Pennsylvania, and you begin seeing each other.
Dean struggles with alcohol and aggression, which is a problem in your relationship. He tries to fix himself, but it's difficult fixing something that he's been struggling with his whole life. You try to help him the best you can, but it's a slow, slow process. He appreciates how you never give up on him. It shows him how strong your relationship is now and how strong it will be in the future.
He's not the only one with issues, for you struggle with insecurity. You come from a physically and mentally abusive home. Your father was an alcoholic who best you and your mother, which is why you hate it when Dean drinks, since he gets aggressive. And your mother was mentally abusive. She'd call you overweight, useless, and a burden. Her words really stuck in your head, which is why you're very sensitive.
You're afraid of Dean when he's drunk, and hate it when you argue. But this day, wasn't like the bad ones. Dean had decided to do something nice for you. He always liked experiencing new things with you, and since neither of you have ever gone ice skating before...he took you out as a date to ice skate.
You were a afraid, you didn't want to fall and hurt yourself, but you agreed. You appreciated Dean's offer. It reminded you that he did still love you and wanted to see you happy.
It was near Christmas and there was a big ice skating rink downtown right under a beautiful Christmas tree. You and Dean went down there, bought your skates, had a small snowfight, then got ready to skate. You stood at the entrance of the rink, hyping yourselves up to get rid of the fear.
"Are you ready?" Dean asks, his coat covered in snow from small your snow fight.
