katsuki bakugou didn't do feelings. everyone knew that. he was rough around the edges, blunt to the point of cruelty, and allergic to any sort of softness that might be mistaken for affection.
so when you found yourself talking to him more often, staying behind after training just to sit next to him on the floor, watching the sun set through the tall windows of the gym- it didn't mean anything.
At least not at first.
It started out slow, him walking with you in the hallways to class, him making sure Mineta stayed far away from you. Sure that was what he usually did, but to him it seemed a bit more.. something that made his heart ache and palms sweat.
But you didn’t notice? He heard from Mina you weren’t looking for anything serious, which made him scoff. Sure that pissed him off, yet it fueled something inside him that wanted him to make himself worthy to change your mind.
you didn't realize it was becoming something until you caught him looking at you across the cafeteria. just... looking.
not glaring. not frowning. just watching. like he couldn't help it. The others noticed too. kirishima would smirk. mina whispered something to jirou that made them both giggle, and katsuki nearly combusted on the spot.
"shut the hell up," he snapped, face flushed.
you pretended not to hear.
After that he didn’t ask you out, but he made it his daily routine to walk you home even if he lived the opposite direction. You’d always ask, but he’d be quick to tell you to shut up and keep walking.
you weren't the first to fall. it wasn't some dramatic realization-it just... crept up on you but it hit him like a freight train.
In the little things. the way he made sure to grab an extra protein bar for you during training camp. how he remembered your favorite color. and how he’d remember everything you told him, even if it wasn’t something to be remembered.
you knew he didn't love easily. didn't trust easily either.
but sometimes, when your hands brushed and he didn't flinch away... when he let you rest your head on his shoulder after a long day... when he called you 'my girl' under his breath like it was something sacred.
he fell hard, as in falling out of a plane onto the ground without a parachute hard. And soon so did you.. but it was slow at first. Even though he was an angry loudmouth, you still appreciated his presence and anything he done for you.
It was slow, yet it felt.. right.
And soon Katsuki couldn’t even control it anymore, the way you laughed, the way you’d wear your hair down, how you’d walk by and he’d get a small whiff of your perfume, and how he’d make himself an extra lunch to share with you. It sent him completely spiraling.
it was the start of spring. All the cherry blossoms were starting to bloom, and paint the black pavement with their soft pink petals.
He quickly drug you out the building of UA, his hand tightly on your wrist as you both stopped on the large path lined by cherry blossoms.
He looks like a nervous wreck even though he wouldn’t admit, his uniform was slightly more unkept as he was slightly sweating as well. Soon he released your wrist and rubbed his sweaty palms against his slacks, before straightening himself up and looking down at you.
Here goes nothing.
